Dr. Balaam grew up in Yerington, Nevada riding and competing in rodeos, English events, and cutting. She attended the University of Nevada in Reno for her undergraduate degree before attending the University of Missouri veterinary school and graduating in 2001. She did a one year equine internship at Littleton Large Animal Clinic in Colorado, and then stayed on as an associate there for four years.

She relocated to Iowa with Dr. Morgan and worked as a general practitioner and did some reproduction work. She also had the opportunity to work at Prairie Meadows Racetrack outside of Des Moines, Iowa, focusing on lameness, diagnostic imaging, dentistry, and upper respiratory diagnostics. She is boarded in equine practice with the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners.

Dr. Balaam’s practice interests include lameness, diagnostic imaging (ultrasound, radiographs, and endoscopy), dentistry, and challenging medical cases. She enjoys spending time with her family, riding horses, roping and being outdoors.
